River to Rooftop Race Report

This year marked the second year for event organisers Women’s Legal Service Qld, who are quickly adapting to the world of stair climbing by doubling last years participants of 252 to registered entrants this year of 520. Out of the 520 registered, 480 completed the 1040 step climb at GPT building ONE ONE ONE Eagle street.

A short tv appearance on Channel 7 the night before the race reignited our branding into the eyes of the public following our Sunrise stint the week before.

SCA had a strong showing with nine members attending; Trevor (QLD), Marina (QLD), Scott (QLD), Amber (QLD), Marcus (QLD), Meg (QLD), Maria (VIC), Brooke (SA) and John (NSW).

This year marked the first year for unlimited laps (at no extra cost mind you!), with five SCA members completing at least 4 laps each.

The elites went off the line early and fastest time of the day was set by John Bourne (no relation to Mark) with a new course record of 6:14. For the females, SCA member Meg Reeves came in first at a time of 6:29 with Brooke Logan, also a SCA member placing second closely behind 6:38.

Our top placed male was John Du Boulay in 10th place at a time of 7:37. John also completed the most laps of the day with 8 laps. Time ran out for him to complete more but we are sure next year he will hit 10 or more!

A SCA breakfast followed the event at a nearby cafe overlooking the beautiful Brisbane River.
